A new notion that has been taking place in the field of education is to attain the passing grade and that would be enough to move forward in the academic life. A piece of recent news in the UK revealed that students that are taking A-level maths would just need to score just over half marks in their A-level maths, and they would be given A grade this summer. It is further revealed that grade boundaries for Edexcel’s maths A-level showed that any student who can achieve 165 from a maximum of 300 marks will be easily awarded an A grade.
This is a major relief for those students who are weak in maths, and tend to avoid working on the subject. These students even go ahead with asking their friends to “write my essay for me”, when they are given math questions which require a detailed explanation in words. It would not be wrong to state that in case, the news is true, there is a high chance that many students might not put in the effort to study the math subject.
Math is a difficult subject, and if the basics of the student are not right; there is a high chance that he will continue to struggle. The awarding of A grade at 165 scores is not justified with those students who are honestly working hard on the subject. The management of Edexcel must ensure that they clarify this news because if it is true, it destroys the effort made by those students that are working hard on the subject. The field of education should be based on honesty and integrity. Every student must be treated fairly and equally. The rules should not be bent for some, while make others feel that they are being cheated.
